Laser tattoo removal uses photo-acoustic energy delivered in very short pulses to shatter the tattoo ink into tiny fragments under the skin. The body's lymphatic system then gradually clears these fragments over the following weeks, allowing the tattoo to fade. Different ink colours respond to different wavelengths. Our Q-switched laser operates at two wavelengths to address the full colour spectrum: 1064nm for darker inks like blacks and blues, and 532nm for brighter colours like red and orange.

You'll feel a zapping sensation with heat in the area being treated, which only lasts during the treatment itself. Afterwards, the skin develops a temporary white frosting with some warmth that dissipates quite quickly. Topical anaesthetic can be applied beforehand to help with comfort.

A tattoo removal session can take anywhere from 3 minutes up to 2 hours, depending on the size of the tattoo. Larger tattoos can also be split across multiple sessions to keep each treatment more comfortable.

The number of sessions depends on three factors: how old the tattoo is, the colours of the ink, and how densely the ink was applied. Our practitioners will discuss your specific tattoo and recommend a likely treatment plan during your free consultation.

Tattoo removal sessions are typically scheduled 4–6 weeks apart, provided the previous treatment area has fully healed.

Some redness, swelling and a temporary white frosting over the treated area is normal straight after treatment. Your practitioner may apply a dressing and advise how long to keep it on. The frosting indicates the laser has engaged with the ink. Over the following days the area may scab and can take up to 2 weeks to fully heal, and blistering can occur in some cases.

Laser tattoo removal is suitable for adults across all skin tones and types. It's not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for clients currently taking oral isotretinoin medications.

Avoid exercise for 12 hours and any heat-based treatments to your face for up to 7 days. Skip prolonged UV exposure for 28 days, and wear SPF with antioxidant protection daily. We recommend using the Synergie Skin Post Treatment Kit as part of your recovery.
